properVOLUME ... Sometimes you find a little app that does one thing so well that it makes doing the simplest things a pleasure instead of a chore. properVOLUME is one of those.
Functionally, it's exactly what Apple should have included with OS X from the start. I won't even try to catalog my various frustrations with the stock Sound preference pane. The number of clicks and screens that you have to go back and forth between in there just to set up both input and output volumes is ridiculous. And worse than that, you can't do anything to a given audio device without first making that device the default system input or output. If you keep more than one audio device plugged into your mac, trying to set things up with the default preference pane is a nightmare.
properVOLUME solves all that and does it with a quick, beautiful little menubar app that is light on resources and out of your way until you need it and then when you do, it's all right there making it quick, easy, and intuitive to keep all your audio devices set up exactly how you want them without having to open the system preferences and click back and forth in the clunky sound preference pane.
